A Story About Following Your Passion

This illuminating picture book biography written by Nora Kayserian, tells the story of little Zabel who grew up to become the acclaimed writer Zabel Yesayan.

Discover Zabel

Anbardeli Zabel is a picture book biography about Armenian writer and activist Zabel Yesayan. It is an inspirational story (in Western Armenian) about a girl who loved books and made history by pursuing her childhood dreams. From the moment she could read, she surrounded herself with words. Zabel discovered the magic between the pages of books and when she was seventeen, she began publishing her first piece of literature.

Zabel witnessed many injustices growing up and decided that she would fight for what's right with the most powerful weapon of all: words. Little did she know that, one day, she would be considered one of the most important writers of Western Armenian literature.

Author, Nora Kayserian

Nora Kayserian is a mother, school counselor, and bibliophile. Though she spent most of her life in Los Angeles, she was born in Istanbul and lived in Armenia for several years after finishing college. Nora never thought she'd be a writer but after her niece was born, she came across many picture books about influential women like Malala, Rosa Parks, and Frida Kahlo. Sadly, no such books exist in Armenian about Armenian women. So she decided to create her own.

Illustrator, Lusine Ghukasyan

Lusine is a graphic designer and a freelance artist. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Armenia and continued her education at Academy of Fine Art in Marseille.
